Wednesday, October 4

Happy Hump Day! It is Wednesday of WEEK 7. There is more reading today, and here is a link to this week's assignments. Have fun in your story-seeking!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. If you turned something in before 3PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me, and I will keep on working through the Sunday afternoon assignments today. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. Wikipedia Trails are so much fun! So keep an eye out for anything in the reading that you want to know more about... and then follow the trail, and get some extra credit also. Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments. Just take a look at some Wikipedia Trails people have done this semester, like this one for example: from Sindbad to Penguins. We all need more penguins!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is a monument to Noor Inayat Khan, one of my heroes. Find out more at this BBC article, and I've included some more Noor Inayat Khan items below.

Words from India. The English word CALICO, both the cloth and also the cat, came from the name of Calicut in Kerala, India.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Maggie's Heptameron. The Heptameron of Margaret, Queen of Navarre, is a classic of French literature. In this Storybook, you will discover that the Heptameron is inspired by events that Margaret witnessed while spying on members of the royal family.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Twenty Jataka Tales by by Noor Inayat Khan. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents, and for more about the life of this remarkable woman, see the video trailer below.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from the Noor Inayat's Jataka Tales: The Goblin Town. Those of you in the Indian Epics class probably remember this story from the Jataka anthology from earlier in the semester!

Video: And to carry on with the Noor Inayat theme in today's announcements, here is the trailer for a new movie about her: Enemy of the Reich: The Noor Inayat Khan Story. Find out more at PBS.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is taking time to reflect: To grow yourself, you must know yourself. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Come hang out at the OU IT Tech Fair from 11AM-2PM in the Union Ballroom (details). UPDATE: Event moved to third floor of the Union.

October 4: Saint Francis - World Animal Day. Today is the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi. Because of the special love that Francis had for every creature in the animal kingdom, October 4 is also World Animal Day. You can learn more about Saint Francis at Wikipedia, and the image below is from the World Animal Day website.

Check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day, or click here for past announcements.
