Tuesday, November 28

Today is Tuesday of Week 14, and I've re-arranged the Modules area in Canvas so the new week is on top. The first reading is due today, and all the assignments for both Week 14 and Week 15 assignments are ready to go. Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. If you turned in something before 5PM last Sunday (November 19), you should have comments back from me now, and I'll keep working my way through the stack in the order assignments were turned in last week. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Mix-and-match. As we get into the last days of the class, you can mix-and-match the assignments you want to reach the grade you want for the class (410/A, 360/B, 320/C). Any combination will work, and if you have questions about finishing up, just let me know. When you are done, fill out this form to let me know.

Extra Credit. As you get started on the reading this week, keep an eye out for something you are curious about, and then do a Wikipedia Trail. That way you can learn something unexpected, and get extra credit too. Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is an amazing collection of nature pictures online: Two Million Wondrous Nature Illustrations. Find out more at Open Culture.

Learning. To be a good writer, you need both kinds of thinking: convergent and divergent. Find out more at Convergent-Divergent.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Sunlight's Reflection: A Mirror for Gods and Humans. In her time of need, the goddess Amaterasu finds a mirror, but it is not just an ordinary mirror...

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. There is a free audiobook for this one too!

Story of the Day. Today's story is from India: The Frog-King's Folly. A snake tricks the foolish king of the frogs by offering him a ride... but the frog ends up paying a high price for that ride.

Video: The video for today is Can You Speak Emojiy? Find out more here: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat needs both divergent and convergent thinking: To get unstuck, you must first unthink. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: It's the annual Holiday Lights celebration at 5PM in Burr Park (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

November 28: William Blake. Today marks the birthday in 1757 of the visionary English poet and artist William Blake. You can read more about his remarkable life and career in this Wikipedia article. Much of Blake's artwork was religious in nature; the painting below is an illustration of the famous scene from the Biblical book of Samuel, where the witch of Endor (right) conjures up the ghost of Samuel (center) at the command of King Saul in disguise (left):
