Wednesday, November 29

Today is Wednesday of Week 14. The second part of this week's reading is due today, and I hope you are getting some good ideas for a story you want to tell, especially since for many of you this might be your last storytelling post for the semester! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Mix-and-match. (repeat announcement) As we get into the last days of the class, you can mix-and-match the assignments you want to reach the grade you want for the class (410/A, 360/B, 320/C). Any combination will work, and if you have questions about finishing up, now is the time to ask! When you are done, fill out this form to let me know.

Project Stack. If you turned in a project before Thanksgiving, you should have comments back from me now, and today I will be working on the assignments turned in after Thanksgiving. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. If you are having fun with the reading, just keep on reading, and get some extra credit too! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. In yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia there was so much great artwork by William Blake on the occasion of his birthday, like this painting of Satan and Job.

Words from Mythology. Today's word is AMBROSIA, the food of the immortal gods.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: The Tales of Pegasus: Seeking Love. Pegasus knows he is not like the other horses on the farm, so he flies away in search of love and adventure.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Twenty-Two Goblins translated by Arthur Ryder. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This is Arthur Ryder's version of the Sanskrit classic known as the Vetālapañcaviṃśati, a book of story-riddles.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: Jupiter's Wedding. As the turtle learns, you probably should not refuse when the gods invite you to a party!

Video: The video for today is a fun one from Vox: Why knights fought snails in medieval art. Find out more at Vox online.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat knows that mistakes are how we learn: Learn from your mistakes ...and then move on. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Dr. Steven Gullberg will be speaking on “Archaeoastronomy and Ancient Cultures" at 1:30PM in 402 Physical Sciences Center (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

November 29: C. S. Lewis. Today marks the birthday in the year 1898 of the author and scholar, C. S. Lewis. Lewis is probably best known today for his series of Narnia books, a series starting with The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. You can read more about Lewis's life and career in this Wikipedia article, and the image below shows the first-edition covers of all seven Narnia books.
