Thursday, November 30

Today is Thursday of Week 14. If you have not done your story yet for this week, that means today is Storytelling Day. For an end-of-semester challenge, maybe you will want to try a new style! Here is a link to all of this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Storytelling Style: Interview. Each week I suggest a storytelling style you might try (previous suggestions: social media, rap, animals, sci-fi, ballads, OU/Norman, gender-flip, screenwriting. second-person), and this week I wanted to suggest interview style. You can see examples in Aubyelle's Fair Ladies of Camelot in Myth-Folklore this semester, along with Storybooks from past semesters, like: Delilah's Radio Hour and Breaking News: Don Quixote; and see below for interviews with Indian Epic Women.

Project Stack. I should be able to respond to all the rest of the Week 13 assignments in the stack today, and then I'll move on to the Week 14 assignments that people have turned in. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. If you are looking for some storytelling inspiration, you can do an extra credit comment assignment to look at other people's stories in their blogs! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is a tweet from Open Culture. Find out more here at the Japanese Woodblock Print Search.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Epic Women Tell All. Each story here — from Kaikeyi, Sita, and finally from Amba — is more surprising than the last. You won't believe what really happened between Amba and Bhishma!

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Finnish Legends by R. Elvind. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. Some of these legends also appear in the Kalevala unit that you can choose as a reading in Myth-Folklore.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from the Indian Panchatantra: The Jackal and the War-Drum. It's a warning about how appearances, and sounds, can be deceiving.

Video: The video for today is Single-Tasking is the New Multitasking. Since today is Thursday, you can try practicing "tabless Thursday" to see if it improves your focus!

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is ready to keep on climbing: My effort and attitude are everything. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: It's "Cocoa to Go" in Beaird Lounge today at 5PM (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

November 30: Gita Jayanti. Today is the holiday that celebrates the birthday not of a person but of a song: the Bhagavad-Gita, the Song of the Lord, which Krishna sang to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. You can find out more here about Gita Jayanti, and I thought you might also enjoy this Epified animated video about the Gita:
