HAPPY FRIDAY! Today is Friday of Week 8. Here is a link to this week's assignments and also Week 9 if you are ready for some reading and storytelling!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Look back on Friday. Friday is a great day for looking back at how the past week went, while also making plans for the weekend. You can use the Famous Last Words extra credit option to write up your thoughts, along with any other extra credit options that grabs your attention.

Project Stack. I hope to get through all of the Week 7 assignments in the stack today, and also as many of the early Week 8 and 9 assignments as I can. Whatever is left in the stack at the the day will be at the top of the stack for Monday, and you can always check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Project Stream. I wanted to share a really nice layout strategy that Lauren used for one of her story pages, showing us the main characters before the story starts: A Broken Mountaintop and a Broken Friendship.

Featured Storybook. Here's a wonderful Greek mythology project from last year: A Spacious Kingdom. Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto are gods, and planets... and they are also brothers. They took an interest in earth affairs during ancient times, and they are interested in what's happening on earth now too.

Myth Video. I am a huge fan of these books by Ian Doescher: Shakespeare’s Star Wars.

Writing. And in the Star Wars spirit, here's Darth Vader.

India Video. Here's an Epified video about Mythological Twins.

India Item. And here's another one of those Amar Chitra katha fact sheets: Agni.

Plus some thoughts about the Power of I Don't Know.

Growth Mindset Cats. This cat is on a quest for knowledge: Deeper learning calls for creativity of thought.

And here are some thoughts about learning and the brain: Understanding Creativity with David Eagleman.

Event near Campus. It's Norman ArtWalk tonight from 6PM to 9PM in Walker Arts District (details).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

October 12. On this day in 1979, the late, great Douglas Adams published The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, one of my favorite books of all time. You can find out more about the Hitchhiker series of books at Wikipedia, and here is a video with the best bits from the BBC TV series from 1981, and one featuring Marvin the Paranoid Android from the 2005 film, voiced by the late, great Alan Rickman:

And here is the hitchhiker's motto, Don't Panic, translated into many different languages, including Esperanto: Ne Paniku.
