Class Procedures and Reminders
Congratulations! I hope you all got a sense of accomplishment by looking back at your work during the review week... and you should take a moment to congratulate yourselves for all the new things you have explored in this class (stories, technology, everything) so far and also for all the things you have shared with the class. I hope you will have a great second half of the semester!
Project Stack. On Friday I replied to all the Week 7 projects in the stack! On Monday I'll get back to the stack, working through the assignments in the order they came in. You can check the stack anytime to make sure I received your email.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Project Stream. I'm learning so many things from people's design experiments this semester! Erin has used another Genially graphic for her Storybook story: The Princess and the Knight. Click to meet the dragons:
Featured Storybook. Here's a project that puts the women's stories front and center: The Goddess's Safe Haven. Durga is your hostess at this haven, a safe place for women to explore their lives and find inspiration for their next incarnation. Join one of the support groups and hear the stories of Draupadi, Amba, and Ahalya.
India Video. And here's a video from Epified about the goddess: Ma - The Mother Goddess.
Myth Video. This is one of the newest Crash Course myth videos: Witches and Hags.
Myth Item. This is a wonderful proverb from Liberia: An untouched drum does not speak. Let your drum speak!
Writing. Here is a similar thought from the great writer Octavia Butler.
And some advice for the second half of the semester: write something good.
Growth Mindset Cats. This cat is ready to grow: The higher you climb, the more you can see.
It doesn't work for everybody, but this Pomodoro Technique can help you make good use of your study time.
Event on Campus. The 24 Hour Play Festival will begin at 7PM in the Gilson Lab Theatre in Old Science Hall; the admission is two canned or non-perishable food items (details): student-playwrights began creating their 10-minute plays yesterday at 6PM, with performances starting at 7PM tonight. How cool!
October 28: Sister Nivedita. Today marks the anniversary of the death of Margaret Elizabeth Noble, later known as Sister Nivedita, in 1911 (she was born in 1867). She was an early disciple of Swami Vivekananda, and I've included several of her books in the Indian Epics class: Sister Nivedita. The image below shows a postage stamp issued in her honor, and I've also included a video: Remembering Sister Nivedita.
