Class Procedures and Reminders
Thanksgiving Break. For next week, you have all of the week off in this class. So the idea is that you have the usual reading and storytelling assignments due on Tues-Wed-Thurs this week as usual, but then Week 13 stretches out over all of next week. Week 13 is over on Sunday, November 25, after Thanksgiving, and then Week 14 will start on Monday, November 26.
Project Stack. As always, the stack is huge on Monday! You can check the stack to make sure I received your email.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Blog Stream. It's always fun to see the growth mindset mantra graphics that people make, and here's one from Hayley: Keep Moving Forward. She made the graphic with Canva!
Myth Video. Here's a video from the Fountainheads! It's the story of Esther, a Bible heroine who appears in the Bible Women unit of the UnTextbook: Raise Your Mask Purim.
India Video. Those of you in Indian Epics who are reading the Amar Chitra Katha comic books might enjoy this video about ACK's founder, Anant Pai.
India Item. Here is one of my favorite ACK comic books: Mahiravana: A Magician Outwitted. Ravana's magician son, Mahiravana, has kidnapped Rama and Lakshmana, planning to offer them in sacrifice to the goddess Durga. Hanuman will have to come to the rescue!
Writing. It's a communications paradox: A Brief History of Writing Technology.
And here's some advice from Robert Fulghum involving one of my favorite technologies: crayons!
Growth Mindset Cats. This kitten wants to grow, and growth requires hard work.
And here are some thoughts about just what growth might mean: Life From Above, and Beyond, from a talk by Alan Watts.
Event on Campus. As part of International Education Week, come learn about Arabic and Urdu Calligraphy in Farzaneh Hall from 1:30PM - 2:30PM (details). Here's an example of Ganesha written in Urdu calligraphy!
November 12: Bahaullah. Today marks the birthday in the year 1817 of the great religious leader named Bahaullah ("Glory of God") who founded the Bahai faith. The Bahai faith is a monotheistic religion in the tradition of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and it has gained followers around the world. Estimates place the number of Bahai faithful at around six million, and there is a Bahai community in Norman. You can find out more at Wikipedia; the image below shows the Shrine of Bahaullah near Acre, Israel:
