Tuesday, April 16

Today is Tuesday of Week 13. Here is a link to the Week 13 assignments (and Week 14 if you are working ahead!).

Class Procedures and Reminders

Week 13 Reading. It's more stories from the British Isles in Myth-Folklore, and the free choice continues in Indian Epics: epics, jatakas, or other Indian stories. I hope you will enjoy the stories this week!

Project Stack. I read through all the Friday assignments yesterday, so I'll start on the Saturday assignments today and hopefully some Sunday items too. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Here is something special to share in today's announcements: Moriah in Myth-Folklore (here's her Storybook) participated in the Me Too Monologues recently, performing a story written by an OU student. You can see her video and the other videos from the performance posted at YouTube:

Blog Stream. I know a lot of you are graduating this semester, so you might enjoy the growth mindset meme that Joshua made: All I lack... is finishing up.

Free Book Online. Today's free book is The Life of a Text: Performing the Ramcaritmanas of Tulsidas by Philip Lutgendorf. The book was published in 1991, and it's available free online thanks to the UC Press.

Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is The Golden Fleece and the Heroes Who Lived Before Achilles by Padraic Colum.

Featured Storybook. This is a wonderful Storybook from Indian Epics last year: Save Rama's Bridge.

India Item. All of you in Indian Epics have seen Hanuman in action, and here is a Hanuman folk legend: The Ebony Tree.

Myth Item. This is a Biblical work of art that is part of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art: Sacrifice of Isaac by Menashe Kadishman.

Myth Video. Today's Myth video is a song from Hedwig and the Angry Inch about the Origin of Love.

India Video. And for some more music, here is Maati Baani's beautiful tribute to India's farmers: Saccha Mitr.

Creativity. This graphic might inspire some mix-and-match writing: Space Princess.

Writing. For the punctuation humor files: Celebrity Commas.

Growth Mindset Cats. This cat knows that learning is a multi-step process: I think. I design. I create. I invent. I reflect. I learn.

And OK Go wants you to ponder the moment: The One Moment.

Event on Campus. No, it's not a Friday... but it is the day when you can make a 3D Embroidered Necklace in Bizzell today at 3PM (details). There will also be a Magic Loop workshop on Friday!

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 16: Charlie Chaplin. Charlie Chaplin was born on this day in 1889; he died in 1977. You can read more about his remarkable life and career at Wikipedia. His older films are in the public domain, which means you can watch them online for free: 65 Chaplin films online. Here is a clip from The Circus, the first film for which he won an Academy Award:
