Thursday, October 22

Today is Thursday of Week 9. Here is a link to the Week 9 assignments. For many of you, today is storytelling day, and I hope you have fun with that! Tomorrow I'll be able to update the randomizer with all those new stories. :-)

Class Procedures and Reminders

Jumpstart your storytelling with other people's stories. A great way to get ideas for your own storytelling is by looking at other people's stories. So if you have time, do the Week 9 blog comments and/or Week 9 project feedback before you do this week's storytelling. It could be other people's stories will inspire your story for this week. Plus there's something new with the project feedback: you can visit the projects in the other class if you are curious to see what's going on there.

Project Stack. Yesterday I finished replying to all the Week 7 assignments in the stack, so now I've moved on to the Week 8 and Week 9 (and beyond) assignments. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. This is actually from a Storybook; I wanted to show everybody the lovely set of images that Natalia found for the three saints in her project: Diary of Saints.

Twitter stream. The festival of Navratri continues in India, honoring the Goddess for nine nights:

The brave last words of the poet Seamus Heaney

I'm very excited about this Google Art project on Indian miniature paintings:

Storybook. Speaking of saints, here's a Storybook about a saint from Myth-Folklore last year: Visions of Francis: Storybook of a Saint.

With a video to ponder the spread of religions (and as those religions spread, so do the stories that are part of those religious traditions!):

100-Word Stories. Plus an Aesop's fable about the religious life: The Monks and their Abbots. Be careful what you ask for!

I'm not sure how scientific this is, but I tend towards the nocturnal: Sleep Animals (larger view).

Plus a cat to inspire your reading (via Sudesna Ghosh):

And an alphabet for the writer's life from Grant Snider (larger view):

October 22: Dulac. Today is the birthday of Edmund Dulac, who was born on this day in 1882. He is another one of my favorite book illustrators! You can read more about his life and work at Wikipedia. Here is one of his illustrations for Fairy Tales of the Allied Nations:

Here's a video montage of his art:
